Shameless Popery LIVE, Thursday, June 7, 2012

Here's the info. for the first of the three-part Shameless Popery apologetics series that Fr. Andrew Strobl and I are putting on at Prince of Peace in Olathe, KS, this summer:

Shameless Popery

Session One:
The Art and Craft of Catholic Apologetics

I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
- Jesus Christ (John 14:6)

Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence, keeping your conscience clear, so that, when you are maligned, those who defame your good conduct in Christ may themselves be put to shame.
- St. Peter (1 Peter 3:15-16)

Thursday, June 7, 2012
Prince of Peace Catholic Church
16000 West 143rd Street
Olathe, KS 66062

Morning Session: 9:30-11:00 AM in the Marian Room
Evening Session: 7:00-9:00 PM in SMT Hall

Free childcare is available for the evening session, and a one-time $5 donation is suggested.  As I said above, this is a three-part series.  This first talk will be on the question of authority, essentially broken down into four parts:
  1. When I have a question about the Catholic faith, where should I turn?
  2. The Catholic argument from history;
  3. Where does the Bible come from? and
  4. The Biblical case for the Papacy.

There's also a 40 page handout for the taking, about half of which is new material.  I might post it online after tomorrow, if I can figure out a convenient way to do so.

We'll also be passing out notecards for you to ask any pressing questions you've got about the Catholic faith.  We'll try to answer these either at the end of tomorrow's session, or in one of the two future sessions.

Session # 2 is next Thursday, June 14.  Session # 3 is Thursday, June 21.  It's okay if you can't make all three, and if you want copies of the material, feel free to e-mail me.

Update: Two more things. First, you'll probably want to bring your Bible.  Second, would those who can't make it try to remember to offer up a quick prayer that God's will be done through this series?  Thanks!
